| Reverse engineering has become a focus in CAD/CAM research field. It has been widely used in many fields such as reverse engineering for a mechanical product, computer vision and recovery of biological shapes from two-dimensional contours. It is important to understand the purpose of original design by virtually measure on the digital data (cloud digitized data of the real products) and to extract feature from it. Research on three coordinate virtual measurement and reconstruction technology sample has been deeply investigated in this thesis. In brief, the following are the primary contents:Several data reduction methods are realized. The emphasis is focused on the 3-D non-uniform grid method. Then the smoothing and fairing methods of digital samples are described in detail. The methods of extracting the basic elements from digital samples are investigated.
