Reverse engineering(RE) technology is a burgeoning advanced manufacturingtechnology used to design and exploit new products. Shape data acquiring and dataprocessing are two key problems. This paper concentrates on shape data acquiring anddata processing and the author makes the research on some current problems in reverseengineering technology based on concluding and reviewing previous work.On the data acquiring, the author studies the measured error about coordinatemeasuring machine(CMM) and structural light scanner and puts forward some measuringplans to the practical problems in the project. For CMM automatically measuring, theauthor proposes grey prediction method on the base of the achievement of circle-linemethod and polynomial method. Three different methods are simulated and compared.On the data processing, the main procedure for scan line data processing isanalyzed in detail. The necessity of scan line data processing is discussed frommathematics and the problem measured come across in the project. The file transformbetween "raw" format of LSH800 and "asc" format is compiled. The author proposesangle-chord method and depth method on the scan line data reduction. On the scan linedata segment, the method of curvature analysis is applied. The main procedure fromscan line data to curve fit is analyzed with the grey relation and Taguchi methods.When the same thing occurs, we can obtain optimal scheme in best times for it.
