| Transportation and land use research of the past decade has focused in large part on the field of Transportation Engineering and Urban Geography. Yet the division of those study fields has not only brought about the narrowing in study, but the difficulties in integrating them between different disciplines. Influenced by present academic research and its concomitant planning mechanism, the integration of two is faced with problems of dimension-losing and unsystematic in theory research.In order to put the integration study further, the paper puts forth "smart growth" alternatives from Urban Planning perspective, aiming at constructing planning theory and mode in integrating them against global leading planning theory and its Chinese connotation.For planning theory, the Chinese connotation of Smart Growth and integration of urban transport and land use are well discussed, which, in accord constitutes the main results of the paper. Specifically, the paper moves forward a comprehensive theory system of integrating two with three disciplines as the core, directing the studies that might follow; Being another result of paper, Planning mode expounds the analyzes and methods in practice with cue of "analyze factors operating guides applicable strategies" . It is the logical order of planning and design in practice, and the assessment foundation for the specific planning projects. Thus, the dual connotation both in theory and practice of integrating urban transport and land use on Smart Growth has emerged.Besides, the paper further discusses the quantitative approach after qualitative analysis. However, the paper is mere an incipient to the integration theory under the whole research picture. For study system and results this paper concludes, it is more of an attempt than a blessing.Overall, the paper receives its features as theoretical, regional and comprehensive. And, it is of research values both in further study of Urban Planning field and for reference to othermajor related fields.
