| With city's development, many old districts are facing the problems of decay and aging; therefore the renewal and regeneration of city's old districts are becoming the focus of the study of city's development in a worldwide range. That is the background of this passage, which aims at exploring how to read the decaying old districts, how to renew them, and how to regenerate them with urban design method. To the characteristic of high-tense development of local practice, the passage proposes the concept of overall regeneration of old districts in which the social economy, human history and environmental quality can be regenerated synthetically through effective urban design and organic regeneration process.The passage is divided into 6 chapters as follows:Chapter 1: The study thesis is proposed. The purpose, content and meanings of the study are stated, and concepts related to the study object are defined.Chapter 2: Western experiences and theories on the renewal and regeneration of old districts are reviewed with their successful experience and abortive lessons concluded. The main academic foundation is formed through the analysis of the developing trends of old districts' renewal and regeneration. Chapter 3: Analyzes the key problems and contradictions faced by city's old district in China. Deeper reasons are stated and the importance of integrated urban design is indicated according to the current circumstances of the coexistence of chance and challenge.Chapter 4: Analyzes the successful western cases in detail and conclude some basic methods and effective measures.Chapter 5: Based on theory conclusion and case study, this chapter proposes a serious systemic urban design method and corresponding targets, key elements, principles and design procedures, etc. Chapter 6: This chapter is focused on the practice of the renewal and regeneration of city's old districts. Based on the theoretical framework and muti-layer analysis of the urban design of the seaside area of Zhongshan Road in Qingdao, this chapter furthers its exploration of the urban design methods in the old districts' renewal and regeneration through case study. |
