Engraving is a kind of traditional manual craftwork..It has a long history in business of craftwork , advertisement, architecture ornament and so on..However, with the development of the technology of CNC and CAD/CAM/CAPP ,CNC processing is replacing this traditional manual processing gradually. This large CNC stone engraving machine which was made by the Mechanical and Electronic Research Department of China University of Geoscience for Yunxian in Hubei ,can meet the two- dimensional and three-dimensional engraving of all kinds of characters or images.The CNC engraving system is a high-tech equipment which integrates CAD/CAM ,digital image processing ,high-speed milling(HSM),CNC ,precision mechanical design and manufacture ,motor driver technology and build-in motor spindle technology .The main surpose of this dissertation is to research and develop this system.At first ,this dissertation introduces the basic technology of this machine ,such as CNC technology, engraving technology .Then we discuss the characteristic structure ,performance and machine structures ,furthermore the information of similar one mentioned in home and abroad.The key of the paper is in chapter 3 to chapter 6,in which control system ,driver system and CAD/CAM intergrative automatic programming system are studied detailedly.In chapter 3 we analyzed the constitution of CNC drive system ,put emphasis on motor driving control card,spindle driver and feed driver.In chapter 4 we developed the programme of control system and introduced three fundamental technology: multi-thread technology in Windows, Object Oriented technology and digital image processing. Specially we gave the method of multi-realtime control and image dynamic simulation in processing. Then the design of CAD/CAM integrative automatic programming software is made in chapter 5.we introduced the development of computer aided programming system, the theory and two methods of transformation from bitmap picture to general processing code. Some function of digital image processing and marked-block technology is also introduced here. Additionally in the end of this chapter we did a little research on image edge vector.The test of CNC stone engraving machine has been carried out and running examples are exhibited in chapter 6.Finally we summarized the whole dissertation in chapter 7,and gave the prospect of engraving machine.
