To traditional graphics output devices such as printers, plotters, etc., the output of the image is completed on paper materials. However, the picture is failed to be printed on special workpiece and under processing conditions by using above-mentioned equipments. As a special kind of graphical output device, rocker engraving machine is designed to meet specific requirements, which is applied to stone, wood and iron and other non-paper materials. Under those certain conditions, the rocker engraving machine will show its unique superiorityThis paper introduces the pre-treatment of image, the overall structure of the design and the embedded control systems of this rocker engraving machine.Taking into account the particularity of the workpiece and the low resolution of this device, image processing must be taken before the workpiece processing. So the related concepts of image processing and digital image characteristics are introduced firstly and then the feasibility of rocker engraving machine to print the image is described in this paper. As the rocker engraving machine can only output images of the eight grade grayscale, rather than single black and white images, so those eight grayscale images are eventually generated to meet the requirements of the engraving machine by the image processing. The picture codes are then input the control system. The output of that picture would be achieved under the control of the embedded processor S3C44BOX.Compared with traditional engraving machine, this rocker engraving machine is characterized by the structure and the movement pattern. The overall structure and its polar coordinates of the movement are detailed explained. The control system, what core part is embedded processor S3C44BOX, and its interface circuit are analyzed. Characteristics of the structure and the use of embedded control systems achieve the greater miniaturization and more perfect function.
