Modern excitation system plays an important role in improving the reliability of generator and stability of power system. In order to test performance index of excitation device it is request to have static and dynamic characteristic testing at the stage of manufacture, commissioning and maintenance. Generally, an excitation device is dynamically tested at site after completed with factory static testing. Apparently, the non-bumpless site testing is harmful for the generator as well as the power system. It is very more comprehensive and exact to have dynamic characteristic testing of excitation device use equivalent real-time simulation models of turbine and generator under various conditions.In this paper, the real-time workspace(RTW)in MATLAB is used to get rapid prototype and real-time simulation of system object is achieve based double PC(host PC-target PC)of XPC target, thus the real-time simulation models of generator are established. The real-time codes of synchronous generator models established in the Simulink of host PC is created and executed in the target PC, the communication between double PC is realized with network card, with I/O channels in it the target PC andexcitation equipment is connected, thus the real-time and testing of excitation device is accomplished. In the host PC, the features of parameter adjustment on line, register of signal waves and data, produce of testing report forms by correspondence programming can be finished.The real-time simulation testing system based on XPC target have the simulation test with real excitation device,The result indicates that it is possible for simulation testing system finish normal testing and fulfil the request of excitation device dynamic testing without real synchronous generator models and real-time need within 11 s average task execute time, the testing system has important meaning to enhance the testing way and level of excitation device.
