With the development of power industry, the large generator-transformer units playmore important roles in power system. There are significant effects to power systemwhen large generator-transformer units are faulting or suddenly cut off. Among all types of protection for generator, loss of excitation protection is a subjectcalling for immediate study. This paper put forward four typical schemes in loss of excitationprotection, which can meet the various needs of users and facilitate the using. The authorargues that by increasing reverse reactive power closedown impedance criterion. The schemescan effectively avoid miss trip of the loss of excitation protection caused by exciting windinginside open circuit. On the same time, by adding anti-passive power component, the timedelay is prolonged and reliability is enforced.
