On the basis of a fairly detailed analysis of topography, weather, hydrology, soil deposit, geology and other natural conditions in the proposed LongXue Shipbuilding Base, in accordance with its land utilize plan and multi-phases construction arrangement as well as flood prevention and drainage criteria of LongXue Island, this paper provides a preliminary consideration of dike design standard, dike structural style, hydraulic sandfill method and soil foundation improvement method in the future. During the dike general layout design, the relationship among the dike, the proposed wharfs, the proposed docks and the future soil foundation improvement construction is taken fully consideration, so as to achieve an appropriate dike layout. In the hydraulic sandfill design, the balance between excavation and backfill and the relationship between sandfill and soil improvement are the two crucial aspects in the sandfill elevation determination. During the dike structure design, a slope structure dike formed by sacked sandfill is adopted owing to its shorter construction time span and less cost after a comparison of various structural styles, furthermore, the hydraulic sandfill construction is started when the dike is built to a certain elevation instead of the dike is completed according to the conventional construction method, so the sandfill plays a role as the dike support or part of the dike, that leads to considerable advantages of cost and construction schedule.
