A Study On Humanistic City Public Space

The city construction in our country has been growing rapidly and scored great achievements since implementation of the Reform and Opening-up Policy, since the 1990's,the city construction with the aim to improve the public space in cities, such as "the boom in building squares" "the boom in building walking-street" has been springing up ranging from the coastal areas to the interior. The construction of public city space plays an important role in beautifying cities. More importantly, it fulfills people's need of personal communication in this modern society, which grows rapidly, as well as the need the space for public activities in modern cities.However, the design of public space confronts with various deteriorating problems on planning, deciding, designing, developing and managing, among which lack of awareness of humanism and ecology including respect and protection for environment is comparatively more serious. And no solution can be achieved in a short period.Considering humanistic and ecological principles in the process of city public space design and construction, this thesis tries to explore a set of design theory for humanistic city public space fulfilling the requirement of modern society.First, after having defined the definition and connotation as much as reviewed the development history of the theory and practice in the west and the east, this thesis, which has used the theory of modern engineering science, and ecologic science combined with the latest achievement of humanistic science and its research method, has established the research frame for the humanistic design of city public space on the basis of relating theory and research made by predecessors.Then, the thesis has compressed and concluded the design method of humanistic city public space in a comparatively comprehensive way through that frame. It has introduced the preliminary basic principle of the city public space design.Furthermore, concerning the principle combined with the practical situation, it has introduced the corresponding design strategy of humanism and ecologic of city public space.Lastly, with the author him self s thorough investigation and analysis of the current situation of Jianghanlu Walking Street in Wuhan, the thesis has promoted some advanced ways and suggestion, referring to foreigner experience as well as the design method introduced in this thesis and analyses in detail with some cases.
