Belt conveyor is one of most equipment used in bulk transport. With the development of national economy and technology, the belt conveyor is trending to long distance,high speed and big bulk volume. The dynamic characteristic of the belt conveyor is playing a more and more important part in its reliable running. Dynamic analysis model of the belt conveyor is built by combining the multi-body dynamics with the virtual prototyping in this dissertation, which is to provide a new technique for the research of the dynamic characteristic of the belt conveyor. Firstly, the belt conveyor system is synthetically analyzed in this dissertation. And then the virtual prototyping technique, multi-body dynamics and ADAMS software are introduced by associating with develop of virtual prototyping technique, and the dynamics model of belt conveyor system is analyzed in this dissertation. A virtual prototyping model of belt conveyor is built based on the dynamics model and analysis. The model is verified through calculating its kinetic and dynamic characteristic under the condition of low belt speed, which shows that the virtual prototyping model is correct. The dynamic characteristics of belt conveyor in startup phase are analyzed in the condition of a changeless belt speed and a different startup time, and the changing rule between dynamic characteristic of belt conveyor and startup time in startup phase is got in this dissertation. Furthermore, the dynamics characteristics of belt conveyor in the condition of a changeless startup time and different belt speeds are analyzed, which the changing rule between dynamic characteristic of belt conveyor and belt speed in startup phase also is got. The Analyzed results indicate that it is feasible and reasonable that the virtual prototyped technology is used to analyze the dynamic characteristic of belt conveyor. Comparing with the other current methods, the technique indeed realizes the simulation of the true running environment of belt conveyor and the parameters can be expediently adjusted in the virtual prototyping environment. It supplies a new and applicable method to study the dynamic characteristic of belt conveyor. At the same time, some proposals for operating belt conveyors is given based on the research results in this dissertation.
