Based on the analysis of combustion characteristics of the spark-igniting engine fueled with coal-bed gas of various components, an electronic control system has been designed. In this paper, control characteristics and requirements of the engine were analyzed, sensor types were selected, and circuits for hardware of electronic control system were designed. Modular method has been adopted to design the software for the system. Control methods were studied and designed. Simulation experiments have been conducted to study the influences of variation of components in the coal-bed gas on the performances of the engine. The control system in this study can meet the control requirement for engine fueled with coal-bed gas when fuel components are changed.The electronic system designed in this study can provide effective means for further studies on influences of various parameters on performances of the engine. The control method presented in this paper is of some value to the control system design of fuel of various components.
