In order to actually obtain the working condition of the existing railway concrete bridges so as to arrange the next year's comprehensive maintenance, major repair or upgrading of bridges, the track maintenance division assesses railway bridge every year after the regular inspection in autumn.But now the assessment method is still on the basis of qualitative analysis of components of bridge separately, it can not make good use of the data gathered from the regular inspection, and it is not suitable for synthetic assessment of railway bridges.The paper first introduces the development trend of bridge evaluation in the world in details, and also introduces some evaluation methods briefly. Secondly, it discusses the damage rating of bridges in some countries, and indicates the actual problems of assessment of railway bridges in China. Thirdly, based on the systematic analysis of existing railway concrete bridge faults, a hierarchy assessment model is established, and some new theories in mathematics such as the uncertain AHP, Set-valued Statistics and gravity center based decision theory are brought into use. Finally, in compliance with the experience of fuzzy evaluation, a corresponding program of assessment of the state for existing railway concrete bridge is worked out, and is proved feasible and reasonable through application to the practical bridges.
