Proceeding from the stratagem of the city identity system, the papers point out how to deliver the information to the public in a city where information is highly developed by city guidance system, the carrier of information dissemination and the important media of social work. This thus can provide convenient to the citizen and tourist, furnish the system of the city with safeguard, carry the culture of the city forward and establish the image of Fuzhou as a provincial capital.The paper discusses and studies the factors which construct the image of the city in categories of city image and urban morphology. Then my paper analyzes and investigates the guidance system of the city systematically, and puts an emphasis on four aspects of city guidance system: the realization of functionality, explicitness of distinguish ability, systematization of colour and moderation of mass and volume. By the scientific theory of classification, and on the basis of factors (junction, roadway, architecture and virescence) which construct the distinctive image of Fuzhou, the fourth part of my dissertation analyzes the guidance system of downtown Fuzhou, puts forward existent problems, along with rational suggestions and tentative plan, and probes into approaches and means in city design.
