The electric power communication net appeared just in order to ensure the stability of electric power system. It together with the safe stability control system of electric power, automation system is matched to be called three major pillars to make electric system safe running. At present, it is also foundation for schedule automation of electric network, competition with network running, modernizing with the management; and it is an important means to insure electric network safety, stability, economy circulate, is the important foundation facilities of the electric power system. Because electric power communication net has strict requirement about dependability of communication, rapidity and accuracy of protection control information delivering, and the electric power section owns the special resources advantage to develop communication, power companies establish special communication network of the electric power system by themselves.Because the electric power system requests the high characteristics to dependability of communication, the communication techniques adopted in electric power system are already now through mature and dependable technique. Carrier wave communication was at the earliest stage to adopt in electric power system, and in recent years, with the development of data communication technicalness, digital carrier machines get into application in electric system. But the electric power line carries also has its intrinsic weakness: the passage interference is big, and thehas its intrinsic weakness: the passage interference is big, and the amount of information is small. While the fiber optic communication can transfer hundred routes of signals including video signal and computer broadband network signal. It has many strong points , such as big capacity, transmit distance long, and little attenuation, high dependability, strong ability to resist electromagnetic interference, so optical communication is widely used in power system.The main communication technologies adopted presently are made synthetic introduction in this article. This paper firstly analyses the fundamental principles of electric carrier wave communication and the application of carrier machine, the principles of fiber optic communication and the technique of SDH that adopt now. Make some introductions about the application of satellite communication, spread spectrum communication in electric system. Secondly, the telecommunication and concentration control project of 220kV ZhengXiong—DaGuan electric substation in YunNan province are thoroughly discussed, which I participated the design of this engineering. By means of comparison of the quality and data rata and the project cost of different communication mode, 1 select carrier communication and optical communication which are being widely used to make detail elaboration. At last, proceeds the analysis to the present condition of the electric power system telecommunication, put forward the existent problem and presents the outlook for electric system communication.
