In this paper, the static analysis, modal analysis, seismic accelerates response spectrum analysis of engineering and optimum design are performed by using ANSYS. The project is a portal frame structure with light steel, this structure has been widely used with less consumption of steel, faster construction speed and better benefit of economy with comparison to the traditional one. In conventional practice, the span of portal frame is large, the structural components are flexibleness, under normal work condition, the deflection is large, the structure has a certain nonlinear behavior. But at present, analysis of portal frame structure mainly adopts the plane frame model, therefore it is impossible to involve the space characteristics of structure. In this paper, the space nonlinear characteristic is calculated. It is also important for this metal building systems that structure lighter,optimum design are performed.This paper is mainly divided into two parts shown as following.1 , After some simplifications, the static and dynamic modals corresponding to the actual structure are created, under action of permanent load, wind pressure, earthquake, and load-effect combination, the result of internal force and deformation character of the structure are obtained. By the modal analysis of dynamic modal, the free vibration character and the main modes of structure are derived. By the seismic accelerate'response spectrum analysis, the anti-seismic character of structure can be derived.2, In this paper, the characteristics of the portal frame structure are discussed and its design method and dynamic characteristic are introduced. Mathematical model of optimum design is given with minimal steel consumption.The FEA of this building can provide data and results for the design and construction; it provides some suggestions for the analysis of the same type structures.
