The hydraulic poppet valve is one of the most important component in the hydraulic transmission and control, whose characteristics of the inner flow field directly influents the valve's performance, especially the moving valve cone.The 3-D geometric model of the poppet valve is established by utilizing the CAD software, according to the parameter of the in-service cartridge poppet valve. The mesh of the model is generated by Gambit which is the preprocessor of the Fluent. Both the static valve cone and the moving valve cone, the hydraulic oil flow inside the poppet valve is simulated.When the poppet cone is static, the flow field inside the poppet valve is simulated at the different opening positions and the different boundary conditions. When the poppet cone is moving, the hydraulic oil flow is simulated by setting the dynamic mesh. Through the user defined function, the velocity of the poppet coneis defined. In the procedure of the simulation, the adapt mesh is adopted, which the gradient of the pressure is designed to the adapt function. The adapt mesh is helpful to improving the precision. Furthermore, the cone's force is calculated and simulated.When the velocity of the fluid flow is changing, the flow force is generated. When the valve's cone is static, the flow force is named as the static flow force. For the moving cone, it is named as the transient flow force. The flow force affects not only the valve performance but also the hydraulic system, so it is the important factor for designing and analyzing the control valve.In the paper, the static and transient flow force is calculated by the theoretical formula and the simulation. When the opening position is smaller and the discharge is larger, the absolute value of the transient flow force is larger. So when designing the poppet valve, the consideration for the transient flow force is necessary. The study for the valve has offered the significant reference to designing the valve and optimizing the performance.
