Park-and-Ride is an important treatment for the urban travel demand management. Park-and-Ride lots are typically located at the outer edges of activity center with transit networks and transit centers, they intercept car travelers to the center, lead travelers to transfer with high occupancy vehicle mode, optimize trip mode framework, save energy sources, and improve environment quality. This measure will be of great important to prevent traffic congestion, reduce inner-urban parking demand, and assure the city to develop persistently. The thesis can be divided into two parts: planning theory an application research. In the theory part: first, the thesis compared the foreign advanced experiences of planning, designing and implementation on park-and-ride systems, seeked their commonness, and provided theory bases for planning urban park-and-ride systems. Then, with the characteristic of urban traffic and urban layout analyzed, and with the background data invested, we established the process framework of planning and designing park-and-ride system. Finally, the thesis analyzed four key technologies of planning park-and-ride system, they provide theory bases for the research of Beijing's project. In the application part: based on analysis of the comprehensive idea on urban park-and-ride system, the planning theory was applied to Beijing's project. First, the research determined the goals and objectives of Beijing's project. Then, based on the background data of total urban characteristics, traffic demand characteristics, traffic facilities characteristics, and traffic development policies, etc, and with classifying the park-and-ride lots, we completed the example of Beijing's park-and-ride application research. At last, with the traffic demand forecast analyzed, the thesis gave evaluation of the project using the analysis method studied in the paper.
