The dump truck frame is an important part of its chassis system, in the process of moving, the dump truck frame has to withstand the continuous and cyclic load from its own engine, the road and others. And its weight is an important contribution to the whole weight. Therefore, Light weighting and improve the low order modal frequency of the dump truck frame have a positive significance to the overall dump truck. The paper selects the TY-1heavy-duty dump truck frame as its research object. First, a static analysis is made on the bending conditions and bending-torsion conditions of the dump truck frame in the HyperMesh, with the purpose of predicting the location of failure under common conditions. Introduce the basic theories of the modal analysis, use ANSYS and DASP to conduct finite element and test modal analyses of the frame, obtaining free modal frequencies and shapes in the first ten grades and verifying the credibility of the finite element model in the paper at the same time. Combining with the corresponding performance criteria, the study also evaluates the vibration characteristics of the frame. Then, a harmonic response analysis is made on the frame in ANSYS. On the one hand, the dynamic response characteristic of the frame is concluded under the influence of external stimulus by analyzing the incentive influence of road and engine on the overall performance of the frame. On the other hand, it is found that the frame has enough strength to meet transient response of each point when traveling at a speed of10m/s on the D-level road. Finally, researches are carried out to optimize the frame and advance the low grade model frequencies, with design variables are determined on the basis of sensitivity analysis and the heavy-duty truck frame is optimized. For one thing, the weight of the frame is decreased by8.0%on the premise of ensuring its low grade mode frequency as well as stiffness and intensity. For another thing, the low grade mode frequency of the frame is meliorated on the basis of controlling its weight and intensity. All in all, the present study makes systemic investigations from the three-dimensional model establishing to frame optimization. The research findings can give some implications to studies of other related models. The optimization results, in particular, shall have some guidance to the new truck model development and the frame structure improvement.
