The cases of variable work conditions often occur during the practical use of mechanical seal, such as sealing area open, intermittent concussion, slap, and so on. Therefore, developing the mechanical seal for variable work conditions is the critical task to improve the life of the mechanical seal.At present, the technology of the mechanical seal is being applied into practice. Although the seal theory is fairly developed, there is still large discrepancy when the theory data are directly applied as experimental data.In this thesis, three tasks have been accomplished by combining the theory and practice. Firstly, mechanical seal movement has been particular analyzed ,the main factors, which affect the quality of mechanical seal under variable work conditions, have been confirmed by combining the basis theory of mechanical seal. Then,the design of the mechanical seal experimental platform for variable work conditions has been finished. By this experimental platform, the work environments of variable work conditions can be simulated according to the experimental requirements and the effective experimental ground is provided for the further research of the mechanical seal under variable work conditions. Finally, the design and selection of temperature/pressure/displacement transducer and the building of data acquisition have been made. So, the accurate experimental information can be obtained from the mechanical seal experimental platform for variable work conditions. Furthermore, variation law of mechanical seal parameters under variable work conditions has been found by experimental research. The detailed methods for improving the service life of mechanical seal have been put forwarded.
