Featuring multiple types and small batch, Mass Customization (MC) is a new kind of advanced manufacture mode, which can most fulfill customers' individualized requirements and adapt to the dynamic and changeful market. As an effective method to solve the conflict between manufacture scale and individualized requirements, the essential of MC is an individualized design based on modular theory. Design for Mass Customization (DFMC) conducts development by regarding the parametric models of product family as targets.On the basis of the research on parametric modeling technology and development of motorcycle hydraulic disc brake, this thesis aims at the inefficiency of some uncompleted aspects unfitting for MC in current parametric design method, and as well considers the requirements of the project - 'Concurrent Product Development Platform on the Basis of Quick Response to Customers'. Main work of this thesis includes:The first section briefly introduces the design methods of motorcycle hydraulic disc brake.The second section presents the essential and fundamental principles of Mass Customization. In addition, research on the key technologies of, especially modular design, is carried out. Based on this research, the design process in Mass Customization Environment is expounded.The third section involves the research on product family programming and modeling, and the summarized introduction of the parametric design technology. The author proposed the component family parametric model based on the technologies of MC, product family, modular design and parametric design, and then introduces the general flow of DFMC on this model.The fourth section focuses on the product design process in PDM environment combined with practice on the project - Concurrent Product Development Platform. An integrated CAD system based on PDM is established, and then framework and work flow of this system are presented. In addition, some re-development had been conducted on AutoCAD and Pro/Engineer for making the design data can drive the generation of engineer drawings.
