To adapt to the development of recent information technology quickly, especially the challenge that the manufacturing faces nowadays, the research on the manufacture mode of mass customization seems especially important, which makes enterprise can mostly satisfy the individual needs of customer as soon as possible. In this paper, three aspects are researched including the planning design of product family, product customization and product collaboration. The main achievements are as following:⑴The function model is set up on basis of the principle of functional stream, and the model identification method is built, which integrates the impact of customer requirements on product with the principle of functional flow. At same time, the serial design model and the interface design model for product module are planed. Finally, the model of product family is accomplished.⑵Aiming at the problem that the parameters are not intact usually, the integrated parameters are get through the EM(Expection step, Maximization step) algorithm, and the parameter-based FS(Function-Structure) unit model of bottom flexible is set up. Then product customization design is realized based on the parameter model case of customer requirements.⑶The model of product collaboration design is first planned. Based on the model, the message-based network collaboration structure in the process of product collaboration design is built up. Then the distributed synchronous modeling is accomplished in this process. At the same time, some key technologies such as access control and confliction resolution are studied in the process, and a confliction resolution model is established according to the design rules, which ensures the safety and credibility of collaboration design.⑷With the fruitful results of this paper, a support system for product customization design is developed. The system runs on common CAD platforms according to the general design procedure of mass customization. Therefore the engineering application for the product design method of mass customization is accomplished primarily.
