Gantry cranes are large handling machinery that widely used in a variety of industries. With the rapid development of the national economy and logistical business, the requirement for various of gantry crane products has been increasing, and there have been higher demands for reducing product developing time and product design quality. The topic presented here, Research of 3D parametric and modularizing design of gantry crane product is for meeting above requirements.Based on the analysis of gantry crane modularizing design process, in this paper, an entire solution of gantry crane product modularizing design is presented. And based on parametric modeling of the modules, a module management method of gantry crane modularizing design is presented.A product structure management mode based on modularizing design is also presented, and a product structure management system of modularized product is built up. In this system, only the modular and the modular parameter information are involved. What should be stored is the graphical file of the modular model which describing some sort of parts, not the graphical files of all the models of the sort of parts, which saves the memory resource and improving the management effectiveness.Parametric and modularizing design of gantry crane based on Solid Edge and the integration of Solid Edge with the design system are implemented through the second development of Solid Edge by using ActiveX Automation technique. The design system has convenient operation interface and efficient running process due to object-oriented programming method.Furthermore, a database logical structure for the modularizing design system is presented, which assists the integrating management of system design data.For the first time, the parametric and modularizing design system of gantry cranes realizes the integration of parametric design and modularizing design, which contributes to reducing product lead-time and improving the product quality.
