As a medium and high end gantry crane, the European crane has been increasingly favored by the market in recent years and has become the mainstream. At present, the crane enterprises in our country still use 2D graphic software such as Auto CAD to design product. With the increasing demand of the market, the proportion of time occupied by wasteful duplication of effort is getting bigger and bigger, thus the innovation capacity of staff is limited greatly.In this paper, the European crane has been taken as the research subject. Using Microsoft Excel as data management software, and Ansys Workbench as a finite element analysis platform. By using VB as programming tool, a European crane parametric design system based on SolidEdge is developed. This design system help crane enterprises to ensure the quality of design, improve design efficiency, shorten time to market and reduce development costs.The modular technology is studied, the function and structural of the European crane are decomposed by the modular theory, and the reasonable module division and reorganization are carried out. The secondary development of SolidEdge is also researched. By calling the variable table, the 3D model of European crane could be parameter-driven. By combining the top-down method with bottom-up method, the 3D model is assembled rapidly and rendering generated. The technology of 2D drawing's automatic generation and adjustment is studied to solve the problems of 2D drawing generated by SolidEdge. And to meet industry and corporate standards, the layout of view, size, notes, and BOM are all adjusted. Based on finite element technology and theory, static analysis of the key structure of the European crane is carried out, which provides a preliminary judgment basis for the rationality of the design. By adding the calculation attributes in the 3D models, the automatic statistics of the materials are realized. At last, the humanized human-computer interactive interface is designed and functions are integrated, which implement a one stop design system include 3D model drive, 2D drawing automatic generation and adjustment, finite element analysis and material statistics.
