The Design And Realization Of Electronic Chart Display System Based On International Standards

Taking Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) as the background, this thesis studies the international standards which are related to ECDIS, and accomplishes the software design and realization of the Electronic Chart Display System which is the subsystem of ECDIS on Windows platform based on these international standards successfully.Navigation is a worldwide transportation net, and the come-and-go of ships between countries are becoming more and more frequently. As a result, the realization of standardizing Electronic Chart is becoming an inevitable trend. The development of computer science, geographic information system and electronic chart technique provides the theory and technique support for the constitution of international standards of Electronic Chart. Many international organizations like IHO, IMO and IEEE have participated in the constitution of ECDIS standards, finally, they managed to accomplish the international standards of data transfer and symbol display of Electronic Chart. After about ten year's research and application, these standards have become much more mature and extended rapidly in the world.Developing ECDIS of independent copyright is not only the need of assuring the safety of navigation, but also the need of modernizing technique of our nation's navigation.The problems related to developing Electronic Chart Display System are researched in this thesis, firstly, this thesis discusses IHO TRANSFER STANDARD for DIGITAL HYDROGRAPHIC DATA (Standard S-57) and SPECIFICATIONS FOR CHART CONTENT AND DISPLAY ASPECTS OF ECDIS (Standard S-52). By studying these two standards, we solved the two core problems of Electronic Chart Display System, which is what to draw and how to draw. Then, the design of System Electronic Navigation Chart (SENC) is put forward. SENC is a database in ECDIS, which is transformed from Electronic Navigation Chart and used for improving the speed of displaying Electronic Navigation Chart. At last, the functions and realization of Electronic Chart Display System are introduced in detail. The system using the object-oriented programming technique, realizes the functions of chartslinking without gap, flexible displaying and information querying. The function of flexible displaying consists of displaying objects based on layers, zooming objects without limit, changing colors according to the whether and environment, displaying safe contour, controlling text display and so on.
