The research on monitoring of dynamic character of turbine is under way since the stable running of hydroelectric turbines is crucial to the production of hydropower plants. With the support of NSFC (National Natural Science Foundation of China), we have studied on dynamic character of hydroelectric turbine and established a hydroelectric turbine dynamic character monitoring system, which introduced DSP as the core of node and CAN field bus as local area network controlling bus. The purpose of the paper is to establish a hydroelectric turbine dynamic character monitoring system to replace the traditional concentric control technology by advanced field bus, MCU by high performance DSP. To improve the flexibility of connection between PC and peripheral equipments, USB technology was used in the research of interface card which connected the CAN bus and its upper equipments. The main work completed could be summarized as following: 1. Firstly, the whole structure of monitoring system was designed after the character of the object monitored had been analyzed. 2. Secondly, a smart node featured with real time and powerful computation capability was designed with the high performance TMS320LF2407 taken as the CPU of monitor node. 3. Thirdly, an interface card that converted the signal of CAN and RS232 bi-directionally was designed. The CAN network can communicate with other equipments through the interface card. 4. Finally, a dynamic character of hydroelectric turbines information managing system was designed with the application of VB and database. This system can show the running state of hydroelectric turbines through a friendly interface. The state parameters of the hydroelectric turbines could also be saved in the database. In conclusion, the research and design of the dynamic hydroelectric turbines monitor system based on the relative theory and technology is very valuable and meaningful in making sure the stably and safely running of hydroelectric turbine.
