Land-slide, often taking place in a mountainous area, is a geological disaster with a large quantity and scale. It is very complicated and always has some regularity and often causes severe damages. Usually, land-slides happen in certain engineering circumstance and certain hydro-engineering geology circumstance. It is a kind of slope deformation caused by natural forces, mainly the gravity, or by human project actions. The proper treatment measures, including drainage, unload, improvement of the earth and retaining project, should be taken according to the characteristic of the land-slide. Anti-sliding pile is a typical measure to treat the land-slide. It retains the slope by extending itself deeply into the sliding bed, which offers the retaining force. The traditional method to design an anti-sliding pile is just to checking a set of selective sizes of it and the foundation modulus is always looked for in a graph by hand, so it will be a hard work for an engineer to design anti-sliding piles using the traditional method and is difficult to optimize anti-sliding piles. Hence, the Western Project of Ministry of Communications planned to develop a program of retaining structure optimization for slope. This is one of the important parts of the subject. In this paper, based on the deep study on the mechanism of the land-slide, several dominative parameters are optimized by using modern optimization methods and a program based on interactive technique are developed by using random searching and genetic algorithms. Consequently, an engineer is alleviated from the hard work when designing anti-sliding piles and the work efficiency can be improved. What is more important that an economical plan which guarantees the safity can be obtained. An example is presented to demonstrate the effect of optimization. The program is mainly based on the current criterions of the state. Visual basic 6.0 is adapted to Windows programming for system realization. The system can do the main jobs arranging from land-slide force calculation to designing and optimizing anti-sliding piles and can meet with the basic needs of a civil engineer. It tally with the general steps of design anti-sliding piles and can be used in practice.
