| Road lighting in campus areas is very important to satisfy traffics both of passengers and vehicles, accommodate pedestrians'security and safety. But up to present, there is no direct guideline indicating the lighting quality of campus roads. Consequently, the present road lighting level in domestic campus areas has dramatically difference according different universities (see Chapter Four). From a perspective of architectural science and technology, this thesis studies the road lighting in campus areas and, for better lighting qualities of campus road, principles and guidelines will be developed. On a basis of literature review, this paper introduces the classification, environmental components of campus roads and activities of road users, and analyses the functions and characteristics of road lighting in campus areas. Through these description and research, this thesis has a clear map and target of the study on road lighting in campus areas. Many factors influence the quality of road lighting in campus areas, and this paper analyses the evaluation system in a wide view. Emphasis is the relationship between vertical illuminance and semi-cylindrical illuminance. However, it is important to get clear how the factors influence the quality of road lighting in campus areas. So, questionnaires are employed in the process of local surveys in seven universities. And the colleted data is analyzed by the famous statistical program, SPSS, to get the relationship between factors and subjective evaluations. By the correlation analysis, this paper concludes the important factors of lighting environment of campus roads. However, some factors of road lighting in campus areas could be quantified, others may be not. This paper mainly studies the illuminance level of the road lighting in campus areas and recommends the lighting standards. Based on the Weber-Fechner Law and Stevens'Power Law, this paper recommends the lighting standard by combining the local surveys with the subjective evaluation scores of road lighting in campus areas, some methods in China and other countries was considered. Consequently, some conclusions are developed by the correlations between the local surveys and subjective evaluation scores. Finally, this thesis concludes some principles of road lighting design in campus areas and introduces some light sources, luminaries and lighting geography. In addition, calculation of horizontal illuminance and vertical illuminance was discussed and lighting design programs was introduced. At the end of this thesis, the energy saving measures of road lighting in campus areas are provided. |
