When logistics motorcade enter a strange city or street, the drivers are confronted with plenty of difficulty on account of not being familiar with the local traffic. So it is very important to receive the location information of other vehicles. Displaying the location of accident vehicle and breakdown lorry can help the different vehicles locate for each other and find out the condition of accident vehicle and breakdown lorry clearly. It also helps to support each other and improves work efficiency.Combining with the technology and theory of Spatial Information Technology and embedded system, the principle of Vehicle Location and Display System based on embedded GIS has been studied in this paper. The demo system about it has also been designed and realized. The realization of the system contains: realization of display on the vehicle terminal, building of the monitor center, realization of the communication between the vehicle terminal and the monitor center. The major researches of the paper are as follows:(1) Introducing the background and development of vehicle display in China and abroad firstly, the thought and emphases of researches are put forward based on the lacking of existing researches. Then key technology of Vehicle Location and Display System is studied. Researching on the objective of the system, the design of it— three-level system structure between the vehicle terminal and the monitor center is brought forward, and realization of the design is introduced in detail.(2) Based on the design of the system, the monitor center that becomes the resource of partner location data is built. Network communication program based on WinCE in the pattern of inter-operation between vehicle terminal and monitor center is explored.(3) XML is adopted for vehicle location information. Coding vehicle location data from different vehicles with XML, the representing and parsing vehicle location data with XML is debated. The monitor center receives the unite location data that is transformed into XML from different vehicles. It makes vehicle and location database server of monitor center harmony work.(4) eSuperMap based on embedded GIS is deeply studied. The demo system of Vehicle Location and Display system based on embedded GIS is realization with eSuperMap.The research of this paper on key technique grounds a technical foundation for the realization of Vehicle Location and Display System based on embedded GIS, which bestows the paper practical value. The adoptions of XML representing vehicle location information can greatly simplified the structure of server and make the system much stronger, andconsequently improve embedded GIS system the ability of supporting for various types of vehicle terminal. This undoubtedly is favorable for the development of logistics dispatching based on electronics business.
