The studying focuses on a kind of stabilizer for ship. Excessive motions of a ship can be effect the safety activities and comfort of passengers. Many kinds of stabilizers intent to reduce the motions, passive anti-roll flume tank is one of the effective and important methods.This paper finds that passive anti-roll flume tank is the more economical stabilizer through analyzing and test. Based on the anti-roll tank theory, the motion equations of passive anti-roll flume tank are obtained. According to design method of the passive anti-roll flume tank, each parameter can be decided by the method. The effect of each parameter on anti-roll tank is studied. The effect of ship characteristics after installing anti-roll tank is predicted. Calculational method of Added mass, Damping, Damping coefficient, Frequency, Response amplitude operator of ship is introduced. And the roll motion of ship on irregular wave with or without anti-roll tank is predicted. In the paper also compare anti-rolling efficiency of the ship after installing the passive anti-roll flume tank with the passive the U-tube passive anti-roll tank. The method is software with FORTRAN and VB language on windows platform. The method can be not only used in designing a new passive anti-roll flume tank, but also analyze the characteristics of a designed passive anti-roll flume tank.Two examples are calculated by three method of the passive anti-roll flume tank and the result is made probability forecast in this paper. The calculated result is also compared with the result by method of U-tube passive anti-roll tank. Based on analysis three general method for reducing roll: Bilge keel, anti-rolling, antiroll fins, prospect a few new method for reducing roll.
