With the development of Internet and the upcoming of the post-PC era, the embedded system is becoming the center of interest in the instrument industry. Meanwhile, the wide high-end users call for better performance and functionality of instrument. However,8/16-bit microcontrollers can't meet the performance and resource demand of the embedded devices, and they can only accomplish basic function. Due to the rapid development of integrated circuits technology and computer technology, 32-bit ARM processors is widely used in consumer electronics, Industry control and instrument, with the merits of high-performance together with low power consumption and low cost. The embedded system technology based on 32-bit ARM processors has important impact on the development of instruments.Based on ARM processor and embedded Linux operation system, embedded system technology is used in the development of high-end electromagnetic flowmeter. It greatly improves the display patterns, communication and data storage. Therefore, instrumentation intends to be more intelligent, humane and networking. The development of embedded electromagnetic flowmeter will be beneficial to improve the electromagnetic flow measure technology of our country. The dissertation mainly focuses on the following research works:1. Based on analyzing the trend of electromagnetic flowmeter and embedded system technology, an innovated method is presented: applying embedded system to the electromagnetic flowmeter.2. The hardware of embedded electromagnetic flowmeter has been designed. It included ARM processor module, signal amplifying and filtering module, exciting module of three-value low-frequency square waveform, TFT color screen module, debugging interface module, as well as communication module based on Ethernet and USB.3. The design and development of embedded software has beenelaborated in detail. Embedded software consisted of the building of cross-development environment, the transplant of U-Boot and embedded Linux, the development of Linux driver programs, the building of root file system and JFFS2 file system, and the development of application software based on MiniGUI and multi-thread technology.4. A series of system testing and experiment were done on embedded electromagnetic flowmeter. Results showed that the embedded electromagnetic flowmeter not only had the traditional functions, but also had many merits, which included TFT color screens to picture flow curves, file storage of flow data to prevent it from being lost, and remote data acquisition and control functions based on Ethernet.
