Performance-Based Fire Design Of A Good-Sized All-Round Commercial Building

With the development of urbanization and economic advancement,structural function is made more and more diversification, especially so much good-sized all-around commercial building, high-rise building, substruction and large-space building rise up. The"prescription"design code according to the experience can't fit the requirement of the new type building. There are many situations that present code can't suit the buildings'shape. Basing the fire safety engineering, performance-based design methods confirm the fireproofing project according to the building fire characters, and find a scientific way to resolve practice problems in real projects.This paper analyses the good-sized all-around commercial building characters, fire fatalness, fire cases and some fire fighting safety design problems that the author has encountered when verifying the building fireproofing. The author contrasts performance-based fire design methods with present code's character and limitation. The research general situations on performance-based fire design at home and abroad are introduced. Meanwhile, this paper analyses the content to fire fatalness evaluation,computer simulation in fire,tentative fire problem,special calculate tool,smoke control and management,occupants safety evacuation and uncertainly problems in the performance-based fire design. Finally, the author takes a real project for example to evaluate fireproofing design.Generally speaking, the request of fire safety in performance-based design code is in consistence with the"prescription"design code. But it makes up many shortages to"prescription"design code, has been approved widespread in international and has strong life. The appearance of performance-based design ideal is very important to development of fire fighting science and technology. Otherwise, the present research on performance-based design method and code is in early development moment at home and abroad, the system has still some disadvantage and shortage. Some practice problems or difficulty will come forth while applied. So for any considerable period, the performance-based design can't replace"prescription"design completely, the"prescription"design will still play an important role.
