Nowadays, the most feasible compromise in applying a combination of new and old technology is provided by hybrid electric vehicle, which provides the benefits of both electric(EV) and traditional internal combustion vehicle, while minimizing the limitations of each. Hybrid Electric Vehicle is the most feasible solution to solve the energy and pollution problems in long time.City public transit is very crowded, and stops frequently, has slow driving speed and extremely serious pollution. City bus has fixed traveling line and regular run time normally;the total course that transit bus runs everyday is around 300 kms mostly. Under this kind of condition, the emission and the fuel economy of conventional transit bus are bad. But Hybrid Electric Bus (HEB) can just develop its advantages. HEV has more components than conventional vehicle, so it increases weight and volume. But it has less influence on big transit bus than on car. So many experts think the HEB will realize its industrialization firstly. The Ministry of Science and Technology of China has also set the development of HEV and HEV components as one of the most important sub-projects in the 863 Program.No mater the configuration of the hybrid power train of HEB is parallel or series;there are advantages and disadvantages at the same time. HEB is decided to adopt the configuration in SPHEV;the components of the power train include the lead acid battery, AC induction motor and diesel engine. In this paper, the author gives a presentation and analyse on the power train subsystem, such as battery, motor and genertor. Moreover, the thesis also introduces the simulation software of HEV— ADVISOR2002.This thesis introduces control aim, control model and sixty-four-dollar questions of the control strategy. The simulation software of HEV-BondHEV1.0 exploited by Wuhan University of Technology HEV study is mentioned.An electromechanical coupling of the powertrain for a kind of SP hybrid electric city bus is proposed, analyse this system's all kind of work modle and power flow.For some drive cycle, in order to maintain the batteries' SOC, the control strategy for the powertrain is designed under a driving cycle. A simulation model based on ADVISOR2002 is set up also. From the results of simulation, the control strategy and simulation models can meet the need of the design target for the hybrid electric city bus powertrain.
