Optimization method is one kind of new science and technology which was developed during the last ten years.It has been applied in various realm of engineering design A new subject named mechanism optimization design had been formed when it was combined with mechanism design and computer technique. "Best optimization" is the goal of almost every designer or engineering project.In any design of engineering or product,the goal of best design was wanted by choosing a reasonable scheme or confirming parameters according to the requests of design.So,optimization design has been well applied in the field of mechanism design.Recently years,there is a new optimization method named Genetic Algorithms (GA) which is based on the numbers of genus groups.This method is a kind of random searching method which simulated natural selection and evolution. Compared with traditional optimization method,Genetic Algorithms has two notable characters.One character is latent parallel and the other is seaching in the whole area.And Genetic Algorithms has some advantage which traditional method don't have,for example,in Genetic Algorithms we didn't need the calculation of grade.The optimization design of portal crane luffing system is a good example in which optimization design is applied in engineering design. In this paper,the optimization of four-bar linkage luffer of portal crane is studied.In the math model,the successful examples are considered,that enhance the optimization precision and introduce Genetic Algorithms,combine engineering tightly,that settle the difficult in the traditional optimization successfully.In the optimization design system of the arm system,the heredity multipurpose optimal model was set up and the maximal horizontal displacement of the load and the minimum arm of force were adopt as objective function. At the same time,contrapose to the inverse function issues which were met frequently ,some measures such as the improvement of design variables were adopt,which has greatlyimproved the efficiency of seeking.In the optimization design system of the level-balancing weight system,the heredity single-purpose optimal model was set up,and the minimum root of moment was adopt as objective function,and according to the experience,the design variables were improved,which made the optimization progress more convenient and speedy.A reliable program of optimized design is also developed and a concise and friendly interface is offered to the designer. Finally, the operating methods of the software are presented by the discussion of a practice example, which verifies the use value of the software, too.
