Car is a vehicle that is most close to our life in modern society. It is reported that there are eight hundred million cars in the world. The importance of car in our life is self-evident. With the development of the society, our intelligent demand on the car is higher and higher. As the compass system is an intelligent part of vehicle, the study on it is very important.By contrasted with various of weak magnetic measurement, magnetoresistive sensor is used in design the digital compass system of vehicle. The system is composed of magnetoresistive sensor, signal processing unit, microprocessor and display unit. It can compute and display the direction of the car in digital format. This dissertation describes the theory and design of the compass system in detail. The error of the system is analyzed. Considering its particularity, the module of error compensation and anti-jamming is designed for improving its precision.
