With the development of Internet technology and approaching of the post-PC era, the embedded system is becoming the center of interest in the IT industry and bringing along a large market. Meanwhile, the wide embedded applications call for better performance and functionality of embedded system, the performance of 8/16-bit microcontrollers could't meet the further demand of the embedded devices. Due to the rapid development of integrated circuits (IC) technology, the embedded technology based on 32-bit RISC processor is becoming much more popular. Designing a communication terminal using high performance processor of mmitype ship positioning system is the focus of this thesis.This thesis begins with the introduction of the application of embedded system in minitype ship positioning system and the development of embedded software and hardware. First, the exordium summarizes Vessel traffic management system's developed history,developing trend, key techniques and the home and abroad developing status. Then the reserching background and intention of this project is presented. At last my main work is also presented. In the second chapter, the basic communication techology in the system is simply introduced, the principle of GPS,SOTDMA is discussed, and also for communicaiton synchronization problem. In the third chapter, software,hardware designing method, achieving goals and choice of software,hardware for the whole system is presented, the following chapters are arranged to describe the processing of building the whole system, discussing about hardware designing and embedded system software platform building in detail. At last, the designging and implementation processing of system communication software is introduced, the scheme for system software implementation is proposed, and some important modules,such as GPS handling, VHF communication and slot management are discussed in detail.The highlight of the hardware system is the Samsung S3C2410 RISC CPU based on ARM920T kernel. Embedded Linux operating system is ported to manage the whole hardware and software resource, The application program is supported by MiniGUI which is very convenient for user operation, while the building embedded Linux software architecture need a great lot of work to do, the chapter 5 will describe the detail processing, including compiling the GNU cross-tool chain, porting bootloader and Linux kernel to ARM920T processor, the configuration and building of root file system, and transplanting of MiniGUI.Based on the system design requirements, the application scheme of communication terminal of minitype ship positioning system is proposed and implemented, which provides multi-terminal information alternation and convenience for ship supervising and management. At last, the conclusion, prospect for further reserching and application is proposed.
