Concrete-Face Rock Fill Dam is one of the main dam types of earth and rock fill dam. It is primarily made of rockfill and gravel, which is of bearing function, and at the upper side of dam, the concrete face is located, which is of antiseepage function. The concrete face dam has the advantage of low requirement for foundation, easy diversion, low cost, convenient and fast construction, etc, and it is one of the three new dam types that are popularized in current water resources and hydropower engineering.Combined with practical engineering, the actual case is simulated in this paper, which is calculated by Duncan E—B model. Three dimensional non-linear finiteelement calculations are done with large finite element software——ANSYS. We canget stress and deformation rules and draw some useful conclusions from them. The main work and the conclusion done in this paper are as follows:1. Three-dimensional finite element analysis is adopted to calculate and simulate the stresses and deformations of the Yutang Concrete Face Rockfill Dam from its construction to operation period. In the study, the stresses and deformations of the dam and the concrete face in different periods have been analyzed, and deformations of peripheral joints and vertical joints of the concrete face have been done, too. The calculating results show that the stresses and deformations of the dam satisfied safety. And some suggestions are made and can be a reference for engineering design and construction.2.Then two kinds of simple models of concrete faced rock-fill dam based on Yutang Concrete Face Rockfill Dam are given in this paper. One is assumed to be inlaid three-dimension alcontact elements between the face plate and the rockfill material. The other has nothing between them. The results show that the model with three-dimensions is an advisable model for the analysis of stresses and displacements of faceplates.
