With the development of the expressway, network toll collection system is a historic trend. Networking toll collection can improve managerial efficiency and enhance transportation capacity of vehicle's passing, however, there are still some problems remained, including distinguishing multi-path traffic and accurately distributing traffic fees, which is the keystone and difficulties in this field. This paper formulates the domestic commonly-used solution on the binary-path and multi-path problem and compares the benifit of varies methods with more emphasis on the system optimal and user equilibrium patterns and solution algorithm in networking toll collection system for expressway. According to investigation of the domestic and foreign commonly-used theory, this paper systemically researches distinguishing multi-path traffic and the tollgates deployment in concept, principle and method by theoretical analysis and technological comparing research. The main aspects are as following: It is the important contents to research the model of toll mode choice in the programming and building of toll system, the purpose of research is to make the toll system source used in reason. Based on t he characteristic of vehicles arrive flow , we apply the method of queue theory t o develop the optimize model for the purpose of the lowest of time losing of toll system. Then we apply the queue theory to explain the best tollgates deployment. The paper mostly answers the questions of distinguishing multi-path traffic in network toll collection system, discusses the common two kinds of means about the problems of distinguishing multi-path traffic, including accuracy identifying method and probability distributing method, and attempts to solve the problems with the method of system optimal and user equilibrium patterns with the model and solution algorithm. Flow assignment problem, which is related to network topological structure, path selecting principles, network cost functions and travel demand matrix, is analyzed with the properties of system optimal and user equilibrium network flow patterns. The main results of this dissertation may be summarized as follows: 1) Set forth network cost functions and two principles of network equilibrium in traffic distribution. 2) Analyze the delay of toll station and the fixed need model of tollgates deployment. 3) Research models of distinguishing multi-path traffic in network toll collection system and compare the strongpoint and shortcoming of varies methods systemically. 4) Bring forward the method of distinguishing multi-path traffic in network toll collection system.
