Research On The Ancestral Temple In The Southeast Of Hubei Province

The ancestral temple is an important part of the vernacular architecture, representing the highest achievement of the traditional country society. Its birth and development was influenced by every aspect of the society, especially by the system of consanguinity and family that has last for thousands of years. Thus we can understand its law of forming and developing by researching with other social science. Building of the ancestral temple is a widespread as well as important phenomena in the southeast country of Hubei. Every village has one or more ancestral temples, whose type and arrangement dominate the consanguineous village. This paper chooses the ancestral temple in the southeast country of Hubei province as object, researching its birth and development and future through a lot of fieldwork, in order to grasp the law of its forming and developing and provide some valuable advice for protecting and renewing the traditional village. The first part introduces the related researches, the objective and significance of my research. The following three parts analyze the traditional consanguineous village and the ancestral temple, expatiating on its background of birth, type and function respectively. The next part is transforming, analyzing the transformation of the ancestral temple in the past one hundred of years and conferring its future. The last part is case study, including 8 investigating reports, which is also the most valuable part of this paper.
