Inheritance And Regeneration--A Research Of The Protection And Renewing Of Ancient Ancestral Temple Group In Huishan Mountain Of Wuxi

Huishan ancient ancestral temple group is located in the west of Beitang District of the famous city Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. East of it is the Grand Canal. South of it is the boundary of Xihan Mountain. West of it stands Huishan Tample and north of it lies on the Tonghui West Road. It is about 1,800m in length and 800m in width. Ancestral temple group has an area of 0.3 km. There are two kinds of it: official temple and folk temple, including 118 temples or sites. Due to the various temple buildings, the multi-culture system forms including religious culture, garden culture, academy culture, spring culture, alcohol culture, tea culture, folk music and Huishan clay culture. They are closely combined and highly compounded together. However, with the development of the city, Huishan ancient ancestral temple group is greatly being damaged. Its unique characteristic and its culture are gradually dying out. How to make the civilization and traditional culture light up again in the modernization of the city is becoming our major task that the age has given us.Based on the above, this essay raises the question of how to protect and renew Wuxi Huishan ancient ancestral temple group. First, I have made a study of ancient architecture at home and abroad and the present studying situation in the field of historical culture, and compared the common things of relevant theories and methods of historical cultural heritage protection. Then, by making a survey and relevant theories, I have analyzed the development of Huishan ancient ancestral temple group and the present problems , introduced an idea of sustainable development and organic renewing and put forward the measures of how to protect it. Finally, combined with rebuilding part of ancient architecture and focusing on the drawbacks of its protection projects and the procedure of carrying out, I have made some constructive suggestions. The studying results can function as the reference of city programming and administration. And it can also show the direction of further study in protecting ancient architecture and cultural heritage.
