With rapid development of information technology and progress of society, the demand on efficient control and various functions of illumination by people is improved, thus intelligent illumination system comes out. It makes good use of the technology of electronic, communication and computer network and combines different lighting implements to get efficient control and management. The paper chooses X-10 system dominant in American and DALI system put forward lately in Europe as research objects. Based on the analysis of communication protocols, the intelligent illumination design scheme is brought forward and relevant products are developed. The research is significant in the situation that the development of intelligent illumination comes to be society tide. By funding experiences and rendering new means for industry developing, its significance is embodied.To reach the goals above, the paper analyzes the development background of intelligent illumination system at first, and introduces several popular protocols of intelligent illumination network at present, then carries out the research on the following key issues:According to ISO/OSI network model, X-10 protocol is analyzed completely from the aspects of physical layer, data link layer and application layer. Extended X-10 code makes its equipments to be operated by group and secure Addressed, which is fit for scene setting and other special functions in the lighting control system. The differences between X-10 standard code and extended code are analyzed through an example.X-10 wireless remote device and transmitting module are developed, which makes good uses of the technology advantages on wireless control and power line carrier and makes X-10 lighting control more convenient. Two kinds of receiving modules-switch module and dimming module are designed, the former of which uses relay to change the light switch status and also can be used to control other apparatus, while the later is specially used in the dimming or switch of filament lamp.DALI is a new protocol in the field of lighting industry, which is put forward by some European ballast manufacturers. The paper discusses the application area, configuration and electric specification, and then analyzes thoroughly the code formats, data transmission, access protocol and collision management of DALI. Afterward the characteristics of DALI system are explained through an example.A DALI master-slave module is designed. The master module uses the chip MC68HC908KX8 of Motorola as core processor, while the slave module is designed based on the P87LPC760 of Philips. When DALI system runs, the master module transmits data, and the slavemodule receives the command from the master and then changes the statue of fluorescent lamp by means of ballast control circuit. At the end of this paper, with the preparative research on the dimming ballast, a dimming design solution to the 36W TLD lamp based on UBA2014 is given.
