Based on analyzing the physical and chemical properties of raw materials in Shandong Aluminum Industry Co. ltd., a great amount of researches were carried out systemically. The paper has grasped the domestic and oversea researching situations by a large number of references. By a large number of test research and the analysis of theory, this paper has put forward that if the optimal raw materials, mixture rate, construction technology and strengthening construction quality is adopted, it can lead to raising the performance of this material used for road base. The results indicate that the compressive strength of the road base of red mud is high and can meet the requirement of highway, if the reasonable rate of mixture is used. The compressive strength of the seventh day can reach over 2.0MPa, and that of the 28th day over 3.0MPa.The red mud road base has better compressive strength and the resilience modulus than usually road base materials. It is testified that the application of cement-red mud concrete is feasible, and concrete mix property on according to the function for road using has been designed in this paper. At the same time, this paper analyzed the strength theory of cement-red mud concrete, the contradistinctive test of concrete function between cement-red mud concrete and common concrete have been done. The article analyses solidification mechanism also. Grinded red mud substitutes for part of cement and forms the cement-red mud concrete which has the better physical and mechanical properties. It is available in the cement concrete road surface. Comparing with cement, the cost of grinded red mud is only 40% of the cement. Therefore when the transportation distance is not too far, the cement-red mud concrete has considerable economic benefits. In addition, for reusing the industry waste residue and environmental protection,it is very important to study the road materials from red mud. The research will be helpful in improving the construction technical of highway and forwarding the development of highway in our country. It can widen the road materials application range and change red mud to available material.
