Haikou gate , as the terminal one of the four large projects of Seashore Watercourse Project of the Huaihe River, is located near the sea. Because of the complex environment, the gate safety is influenced by many factors. In the paper, discussed are the gate layout, movable-bed model and fixed bed model test of the preliminary design stage, and analysed are concrete durability and steel aseptic technique of coastal hydraulic structure, which provide good conition for the later design. The main contents researched in the paper are as follows:1.Three layout alternatives of Haikou Gate are put forward. The first alternative is to make full use of the old Liuduo North Gate and Haikou Gate, the second is to demolish the old Liuduo North Gate and Haikou Gate to construct Haikou North Gate and Haikou Sorth Gate dividually and the third is to demolish the old Liuduo North Gate and Haikou Gate to construct holistic Haikou Gate. Based on the movable-bed model and fixed bed model test, the second alternative is choosen finally.2. Analyses in detail are Gate layout,hydraulic calculation, structural design, metal stucture and hoist of the chosen second alternative.3. Coastal structure demands rather high durability and antiseptic effect of concrete and steel. In order to improve concrete immanent performance, cement quality is properly chosen. New organic material is fisrt used in Jiangsu Province to protect concrete structure surface, which is proved to be highlyeffective. Concerning steel gate, on the base of the anti-corrosive pigment, anode loss technique is used additional and is successful.4. Haikou gate takes on flood discharging in during flood period, and the south part additionally takes on draining waterlogging and drawing tidewater to flush out deposit.For the reason of using hydraulic hoist,gate operation is relatively complex.By utilizing advanced computerized monitoring system, labour intensity is lighten and the level of operation and management are improved.
