In the modern relay industry, with the coming of kinds of advanced technology, the relay industry has a big development. According to the relay production enterprise current actual demand, a 3D visual simulation system named 3DJDQCAD for relay based on the OpenGL is studied and developed in this paper. On the basis of research on the basic theory of relay simulation and its development at home and abroad, according to the integration characteristic of CAD system used in relay industry and the current development trends of computer aided simulation technology, combining advanced visualization in scientific computing, simulation technology and OpenGL knowledge, this paper carries on the detailed design and research on 3D visual simulation system for relay based on OpenGL, and presents its whole frame, structure and realized methods. Drawing the relay by MDT software and saving as 3DS format document, importing into the system, obtaining the relay dynamic characteristic data by math modeling, finite element methods, numerical methods, computer interaction technology,computer graphic transformation methods and so on, these methods enhance the system with the interactive performance. The application of these methods and technical enables the 3DJDQCAD system syncretize with the 3D visualization technology and the computer aided simulation technology. And the practical and advanced system can carry out the relay product with its dynamic characteristic in 3D visualization. 3DJDQCAD takes VC++6.0 as the software development environment, use OpenGL with its functions in MFC. The system which is made of such 10 modules including: The relay geometry model import, the relay quality coefficient import, select the parts, set and modify the character of parts, set and modify the structure of relay, computation dynamic characteristic, the relay organization operating mode 3D visual simulation, dynamic characteristic data display in curve, the relay operating mode animation output, the system working conditions establishing. In summary, the 3D visual simulation system for relay based on the OpenGL is developed in the foundation of research on its essential technologies in this paper, and the system can not only use for direct current rapping relay design directly but also will provide the powerful support for 3D visual simulation technology widely applied in relay industry.
