Urban public transportation network planning is the major part of the urban public transportation programming. A reasonable network can shorten traveling time, reduce riders'transfers and improve the efficiency of urban public transportation system. At present, some institutions have done much work and put forward some optimization theory and methods, but most of theories are not applied and methods lack theoretic foundation, so, it is necessary to continue the research. Through analyzing the theories and experience about transportation network, in this paper, the main researches are on the network structure, optimization model and a new method of laying public transportation network. The model is the base of public transportation network optimization, which will influence directly the optimized network. Fistly, through careful analysis about riders' demand, in this paper, find out the main diathesis, researching on current optimization objective and restricting qualification, a model of optimum network with the minimal transfer times as primary goal and the minimal stops as second goal is built. Moreover, introduce the idea of reachability matrix, by which, figure out the average transfer times and come out the arithmetic. The optimization of urban public transportation network is the key of the optimization of urban public transportation system, which can influenc directly the whole system service level and affinity for passenger. Basing on analyzing the passenger's demand, the arithmetic of the shortest path (minimal stops ) is designed. Furthermore, Aiming at existing network's flaw, according to the idea of optimization model, the method of optimizing the network step by step combined with the current network is brought forward.
