Along with the quickly increasing of our country's foreign trade, a kind of wharfwith reasonable cost, strong adaptability, simply construction is needed. Aiming atthis problem, this paper puts forward to Geosynthetic-Reinforced wharf.Earth pressure is the main load of a wharf, this paper establish simply calculationmodel and finite element method of ordinary wharf structure(retaining wall) andreinforced wharf structure(retaining wall), calculation and compare are done on thosemodel. Firstly, simply calculation model of retaining wall is investigated. Taking thehorizontal cell of the wall's sliding wedge, correlative equations are set up byconsidering the equilibrium of the forces and the moments on the cell. When usingthis method to analyze the ordinary retaining walls, the lateral coefficient of earthpressure, the unit earth pressure, the resultant force of earth pressure and theapplication point of the resultant force are obtained. When using this method toanalyze Geosynthetic-Reinforced retaining walls, supposing the tension of thereinforcement has an angle α relative to the horizontal, relations between α and thecoefficient of the reinforcement's tension, the breakage angle are obtained. This paper also analyses ordinary retaining wall and reinforced retaining wall withfinite element method. To ordinary retaining wall, the calculation results are comparedbetween simply calculation method and finite element method, and it is proved thatthe earth pressure distribution is nonlinear. To reinforced retaining wall, its stability isanalyzed, the calculation results are also compared between simply calculationmethod and finite element method, and it is found that some factors, including thereinforcement's strength characteristic, the filling's strength factor, the method andthe length of the reinforcement, have obvious influence on the reinforcement's tensionand displacement of the wall.At last, design and calculation method of reinforced retaining walls areintroduced into the structure design of wharf. Then, a Geosynthetic-Reinforced wharfis designed as example. After the comparison between the cost ofGeosynthetic-Reinforced wharf and the cost of conventional wharf, the conclusion ismade that Geosynthetic-Reinforced wharf is more economical than conventionalwharf.
