Xi'an like other big city, sustainable development had been increasingly accepted by all quarters as a new idea and development pattern. As the rapid development for economy, the cities construction is occupying prosperous time, the residence expensed huge energy, moreover once completed it would affect the inhabitant living condition in future many years. Therefore it was extremely important for the local government and the entire world that the residence was constructed under the sustainable development principle. Assessment on the building environment performance of existing residential buildings in Xi'an supplied basic information for developing the Xi'an sustainable development housing policy.This article carried on assessment on the environment performance of the 9 sets of typical housing or residence in Xi'an. These 9 sets of housing or residence separately include: The high level residence (is bigger than 13), the multilayered residence (4 to 7), the low level residence (is smaller than 4) as well as the villa (or two). The assessment on the environment performance for chose objects was carried on mainly in winter when the residence in Xi'an applied concentrated heating, assessment included the appraisal on various aspects performance for constructs, mainly involved: the building site, the building material, the construction outward appearance, the energy consumption situation, the water use and trash management, as well as the noise, indoor air quality.Through the analysis on the typical housing questionnaire survey, the building environment performance basic information of existing residential in Xi'an as well as existing question currently had been comprehensively understood. The result indicated the existing construction in Xi'an may meet inhabitant's daily need in the building site and the plan aspect. The construction thermal insulation basically satisfied with the national correlation policy simultaneously discovered bad inhabitant consciousness on energy conservation.Tests of winters indoor heat environment were carried on in 9 households housing ,whose indoor temperature basically is bigger than the indoor heating calculated temperature in Xi'an as 18°C, some inhabitant's indoor temperature even outdo 3 ~ 4°C compared with 18 °C, and whose indoor relative humidity lies in 30 ~ 60%RH. It was found that inhabitant's indoor temperature didn't lie in the range of comfortable temperature which was stipulated in ASHRAE in the large time. Moreover the outside average temperature is bigger than the outdoor heating calculated temperature in Xi'an as -5 "C in the test period, which indicated the residence heating system had certain problems in the design and operation aspect.Simulation analysis on thermal environment of tested buildings were carried on with DeST-h, the simulation value of indoor thermal environment was basicly consistent with the actual value, the error was acceptable, which showed that the residence indoor thermal environment coule be forecasted with computer simulation. The energy consumption computation pattern had tremendous influence on the assessment of construction energy consumption, forecasting the real construction energy consumption accurately needed to use the reasonable computation pattern. Simulation on the construction energy consumption was carried on between two kinds of computation patterns, computation pattern suited for the energy consumption computation of residence in Xi'an was proposed.
