Consider Again On The Urban Design In Qujiang New District Of Xi'an

Qujiang, which located in the Southeast of Xi'an, was scenery botanical garden paradise in the history. In March of 2003, the government authorized to establish "Qujiang New District". The important developing axis from Dayan Pagoda north square to nansanhuan road, is being located on the north-south axis from Hanyuan Hall of Daming Palace to the Dayan Pagoda preserved since the prime Tang Dynasty. Key projects in the district: transformation of Dayan Pagoda's peripheral, project of Datang ever bright town, government affairs center and central community will launch along this axis. How influence the urban design of Dayan Pagoda "Axis Segment" will bring to Qujiang New District and the city? How to demonstrate and make use of the broad and profound culture resources of Xi'an in the urban design? How to protect and incarnate the city's characteristic in the design of city axis?Based on the above questions, methods like fundamental research, investigation and study, dynamic research, and so on, were utilized in this article. Urban design and the existence questions were analyzed, and suggestions to the urban design were proposed.The article has been divided into four parts. In the first part, the conception about city axis was collected and discussed. The development of axis to China and the West was reviewed and compared. The division way of city axis was summarized. The status and function of it was carried on.In the second part, the related theory to urban design in city axis was systematically studied, including rationale, essential factor, value, as well as its standardization and legalization.In the third part, the urban design of Dayan Pagoda "Axis Segment" was the key research. Axes to domestic and foreign cities were comparatively researched. Then the same and the different in the developing for different cities were proposed. And in the foundation of the present situation diagnoses to Dayan Pagoda "Axis Segment", the city plan and urban design of Qujiang New District was analyzed. The basic principle andmain point in the urban design of Dayan Pagoda "Axis Segment" was proposed. Projects in this axis were analyzed.In the last part, on the basis of the analyses and research of above three parts, the question how the axis manifests the city's individuality and characteristic was attempt replied, and suggestions about urban design in Dayan Pagoda "Axis Segment" as well as axis of Xi'an was proposed.
