The damage assessment for bridges is important in bridge conservation, maintenance and technical reconstruction, which is also one of the most important problems that are being discussed by engineers and scholars at home and abroad. With time going on, more and more bridges will reach or approach their design service life and the structural damages will appear because of kinds of reasons. Therefore, some research works on the assessment of existing reinforced concrete bridge has been carried out in this thesis based on summarizing domestic and foreign existed research results. The main contents in this thesis are as follows:1. The main points about existing bridge assessment are discussed. The status of research on assessment methods of existing bridge has been summarized and reviewed.2. Combining with the investigation results in engineering practice,a systematic analysis for the cause of damaged reinforced concrete bridges in our country was given, which will consequently lead to some pertinent proposals towards design , construction and administration of bridges.3. The theory of fuzzy synthetical judgement and its application on the damage assessment of bridges was introduced, which will lay a foundation for the establishment of the assessment system of damaged bridges.4. According to its characters, bridge system was divided into several multilevel-systems, and a hierarchy assessment model was established. By analyzing the datum in existence and the interrelated criterion, a comprehensive grade vector of assessment were built up.5. It has described how to use the method to evaluate the Reinforced concrete bridge in detail. On the basis of these works, the thesis has put forward the means that can confirm the weight of bottom indexes.
