As the population in our country is aging, it is an inevitable tendency that more and more empty nest families emerge. Because of this phenomenon, our country, with economy not fully developed and related policies and system not completed, are facing many new social problems. Therefore, it is urgent that the special group, the old in empty nest families, should be well accommodated.According to the related information based on social investigation, this essay analyzes the present living ways of empty nest families and the mode of taking care of the aged in the light of many subjects such as sociology, economics, gerontology, living studies and so on. Meanwhile, according to the special condition of our country, it also puts forward some plans available—setting up community systems fit for the aged, leaving the aged in ordinary urban communities and involving the aged into other people's lives.In the search of the community system fit for the aged, the essay starts from how to satisfy the living demands in empty nest families, probes into accommodation for the aged, community environments, facilities and services, and expounds the tactics of accommodating the aged in a systematic and comprehensive way. The accommodation for the aged is essential to them and is the research point in that system. Besides, the essay makes analyses and suggestions on the community construction for the aged in order to seek diversified plan to satisfy the living demands in empty nest families.The essay gives some new suggestions on the programme and design of the residence for the aged in empty nest families in communities as well as the service system for the aged. It is hoped that this essay will provide references to the further research on the future living problems of the aged.
